Kentucky, United States – August 29, 2026 – For years, Jayelynn Weinel searched for an answer that no one seemed able to give her.
Doctors treated her symptoms, offered different diagnoses, and tried various approaches, yet nothing fully explained what she was experiencing. Living with an illness that others couldn’t see was frustrating enough, but living without answers made the journey even harder.
When she was finally diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), everything began to make sense.
Instead of allowing that diagnosis to define her, Jayelynn decided to do something she never imagined tell her story.
Her debut memoir, FND: A Patient’s Perspective, is an honest and deeply personal account of living with an invisible neurological disorder. More importantly, it is a book about hope. Through every chapter, Jayelynn opens her heart to readers, sharing not only the physical challenges of FND but also the emotional weight of childhood trauma, years of misdiagnosis, and the determination it took to rebuild her life.
“I remember saying while I was writing that if this book helps just one person, then it will have been worth it,” Jayelynn says. “Now that it’s finished, I hope it reaches many more. No one should have to feel as alone as I once did.”
Her story is one that countless people living with chronic illnesses will recognize. There were days filled with uncertainty, setbacks that tested her resolve, and moments when it would have been easy to lose hope. But through years of working closely with her medical team especially her neuropsychologist she gradually learned practical ways to manage a condition that often feels unpredictable.
Those lessons became the heart of her book. Rather than promising easy solutions, Jayelynn offers something many readers desperately need: understanding. She wants others living with FND to know that while life may look different after diagnosis, it can still be meaningful, joyful, and full of purpose.
Beyond sharing her own journey, Weinel hopes the book will help families, friends, and healthcare professionals better understand what it means to live with an invisible illness. She believes that compassion often begins with listening, and that awareness can change the lives of those who have spent years feeling dismissed or misunderstood.
When she’s not advocating for the FND community, Jayelynn finds joy in life’s quieter moments. She spends time with her husband, Rob, their children, and grandchildren, leads creative workshops through her business, Crafty Gurl Creations, and remains actively involved in her church through music and worship. Whether she’s making handmade cards, singing in the choir, or playing the ukulele, tongue drum, or dulcimer, creativity has become an important part of her healing journey.
At its core, FND: A Patient’s Perspective isn’t simply about living with a neurological disorder. It’s about refusing to let life’s hardest chapters become the final chapter. Jayelynn hopes readers will close the book with a renewed sense of hope, knowing that healing doesn’t always mean returning to who you were before, it can also mean discovering the strength to become someone new.

Jayelynn Weinel is an author, speaker, advocate, and retired grandmother who is passionate about raising awareness of Functional Neurological Disorder. After years of living with unexplained symptoms and eventually receiving an FND diagnosis, she turned her personal experiences into a message of hope for others facing similar challenges. Through her writing, advocacy, faith, and creative pursuits, she encourages readers to believe that even in life’s most difficult seasons, they are never alone and hope is never out of reach. She is currently writing her second book, which focuses on practical techniques for managing childhood trauma-based FND.
