Promising Educational Equity and Inclusivity, Howard Launches Campaign at Annapolis Juneteenth Festival

Annapolis, MD – Local business and community leader Maisie T. Howard has officially announced her candidacy as a write-in for the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County, representing Council District 7. Howard introduced her campaign to the community during her recent appearance at the Annapolis Juneteenth Festival, engaging with residents and sharing her vision for the future of local education.

In her announcement, Howard emphasized the historical significance of Juneteenth and its relevance to her campaign. “Juneteenth is not just a reflection on our past but a guide for our future,” Howard stated. “This day is a reminder of the continuous struggle for equality and the importance of educational equity as a means to that end. By honoring this day, AA County is taking a step toward healing and inclusivity in our communities.”

The Juneteenth event served as a platform for Howard to honor the principles of freedom and liberation, to emphasize the importance of community involvement in educational policy-making, and to promote initiatives that support mental wellness, cultural competence, and academic excellence.

Howard’s platform focuses on several key areas: improving transparency in the educational administration, innovation in special education services, strengthening coordination for students “non-traditional” students, such as those from military families, and ensuring that all members of the community feel represented. Her commitment to these issues stems from a deeply held belief that restorative practices can lead to constructive dialogue and healing. “Part of my mission on the Board will be to continue the intentional progression of inclusivity from the top down, specifically increasing student and parent engagement as stakeholders and partners in policymaking.”
