New York – June 25, 2019 – As one of the world’s leading chemical vendors, BOC Sciences recently decides to add an exclusive section of stem cell molecules for scientists in both academic and industrial circle, in addition to its already well-established featured products groups like APIs & intermediates, small molecule inhibitors, impurities, metabolites, ADCs.

Stem cells are unspecialized, basic cells that can become almost any type of cell in the body, and they are characterized by their ability to self-renew and differentiate. If they divide into cells that bear characteristics identical to themselves, then it is called self-renewal; if they change into specialized cells with a more limited developmental potential, then it is called differentiation. Stem cells generally exist both in embryos and adults.

“Stem cells have many potential applications in medicine,” says Prof. Jones, a senior scientist from BOC Sciences. “They could be used in a wide range of areas such as drug discovery, disease modeling, cell transplantation or regenerative therapies. Recent discoveries have even led to a more optimistic perception of what stem cells can do and how we can go further, as several findings demonstrate exceptional forms of stem-cell versatility, which have been scarcely suspected from knowledge of the normal life histories of cells in tissues.”

However, a number of challenges still exist in the field, regarding to what methods we should develop so as to control stem cell differentiation, allogeneic rejection and limited cell availability. In order to find a solution to this problem, a growing range of small molecules has been identified and introduced as promising tools to expand stem cells both in vitro and in vivo and direct their differentiation.

Small molecule inhibitors enjoy great popularity and are increasingly being used to modulate signaling pathways or to understand cell biology,” adds Prof. Jones. “Whether to regulate stem cells by affecting their reprogramming, self-renewal, or differentiation, or to better understand mechanism of cancers by targeting tumorigenic signaling nodes, finding the right small molecule is of vital importance to the success of a research project. As a result, BOC Sciences decides to release a comprehensive range of small molecules that could be widely used in high impact research to explore key pathways in stem cell biology.”

For now there are nearly 400 stem cell molecules available at BOC Sciences, and more could be added with time goes by and new demands arise.
